First time I've seen the technique of using aluminum foil to wrap for overspray.  I'll use that next time I do touch-up on my outdrives.

It’s well marked and easy to navigate the Long Island sound is a little confusing in spots

Hey know, easy on the whole "eastern seaboard" thing :)  The Chesapeake bay has it's share of pretty boating!  (I'm just razzing on you)

@Javhav - that is sure one pretty looking boat!  & I love the tinfoil trick!  I gotta tell my old man about that one!  He worked as a painter for GM (on an assembly line) for ~30 years, and he never taught me that trick!  If I can teach him something when it comes to  painting, that'd be great!

You guys and your salt water boating.  You need to see the North Channel of Lake Huron some time to appreciate beautiful boating scenery.  :)

What kind of paint did you use on the gelcoat? Is it durable, wondering about scratches?

There was someone in my marina that painted around the edge of their swim platform this spring.  It really looks nice to the point I had thought about it.  I know, give it a year or two first and make sure it was a good idea.  Mine has some cracking and stress marks, yes, from slight bumps into pilings I'm sure.  If paint actually fixed it and looked good staying nice, it's something I may do.  Curious though if it's something that will flake after the first slight bump? (no, I really don't 'hit' things :) )

My experience with paint over gel was a disaster!
this was even after finish was west sanded and primed.
    that is using automotive paint

The trick is the paint 2 part acrylic enamel rock hard when it dries it gouges rather than scratch all the supposed scratches on my old boat that I painted with enamel came off with thinner and a rag and that's me always hitting the dock also the shine last for years

Automotive paint base coat clear coat is not strong enough 2 part enamel is the key but hard to spray the clear is built in so that means no blends and no stopping while spraying or else you'll get ashy spots and shine spots but like I say it's the way to go tried and proven 6 years and still shine's like the first day

@Dream_Inn never had problem with flack  the surface has to be prepped rite the procedure I do is wax and grease remover on the surface then sand 220 grit da clean again then I spray the enamel  no primer the gel coat acts as a sealer the paint is able to bite in the gel coat 2 coats of enamel are enough to cover the 220 sand Mark's any coat after that is icing on the cake pretty easy  I've painted boats and trucks like this never had a problem

I'm in his neighborhood and have been in for 2 weeks. Def has been kind of a waste, but then again, hanging on the boat in the rain at the dock is fun too.. people make it a point to come visit if they know you are there.
