    I suck from the dipstick. I always wonder how far down the tube goes and how much oil is left behind.

    I tried both ways and got about 1/3 quart more from the pan drain when I did the oil change this spring. Lots of variables tho so who knows.

    I do the drain pan.  It’s gotta get more than the stick.

    I used the dipstick to drain the oil yesterday and only pulled out just under 3 litres per engine, same as last year. A mechanic said that's normal but the capacity is 4.25L so leaving approx 1 L of old oil in engine.

    I have never gotten more than 3.5L out.  I always measure and add the same amount back.

    Yes to 145Fand then sit for 10 mins to let oil drain into pan. I also punch a hole in the filter.

    Anyone ever have an issue getting their oil filter off? A friend of mine is having a heck of a time getting his oil filter off. He is ready to replace the plate that it sits on. Everything that I have told him to try hasn’t worked.

    Maybe hammer a long rod or screwdriver through both sides and use it as handles to spin off.

    I had this issue once, years ago.  I ended up using the hammer and screwdriver method.  I put edge of screwdriver at base of filter and tapped it with hammer into the CCW direction. It finally started to budge.

    +3 for hammer and screwdriver method.  That happened to me on both filters on my boat when I first bought it.  I assume the last person to change the oil didn't lubricate the o ring.

    Yep big long screwdriver as well.
    Oil filter pliers will work too, They are messy & will tear it all up. But generally work.

    For boat I always take the band type filter wrench & the filter pliers for back-up.

    I’d use a little heat to warm up that gasket. Not too much!
