    Of course with any of those boats, there would also have to be funds to dredge the entire creek and a wide enough spot to turn around at my dock

    I've mentioned before I'd love to purchase a live aboard slip in the keys, a retirement home and a week or two every year until then.  The rest of the time use the boat as a VRBO.   How much are the live aboard slips going for down there?   Unless the trust fund check finally arrives in the mail(parents have assured me that it was mailed to me years ago).  Renting is the only way I could swing it.

    I pay 700 for the 270... and there's no VRBO'ing it. Marina's here do not allow that.

    Bummer.  From Charleston to Wilmington there are tons of floating vrbos.   The water isn't nearly as nice.

    It is bad enough renting a house to people, I wouldn’t want to rent a boat to landlubbers to stay on

    There are ways to do it at private dock... but just not a marina.

    I guess it depends on the marina, but there are companies like BoatSetter that are basically like an AirBnB or VRBO for boats all over the country. I know most of their listing are hourly, but some companies also do by the day. You list your boat - using parameters you set - and they find a match, and of course take a cut. By us you do pay an extra yearly "charter" fee to the marina, but it's not prohibited.

    If I did it, the use would be like a floating condo only.  No taking the boat out unless I can be in the area to operate or i had a very trust worthy person to operate in my absence.     With an LLC operated by another LLC and too much liability insurance.

    At the marina I am at, if you tried to rent your boat out - it might slide under the radar one time, if you told the renters to say they are family, but by the 2nd time people would be on you and if a 3rd group showed up the people who have been here 20 years wold be demanding you be removed lol. Nobody does anything here with out 5 retirees questioning them. I like it. If ANYTHING happens with my boat I get a text immediately. Just like the old times. Everyone watching out for each other.

    To be a VRBO in the keys you have to have a county certification so I doubt they'd give that permit to anyone  in an area that doesn't allow it.  Pretty sure there's a fire marshal inspection as well.


    I only need a VRBO in the keys so I have a place to keep my lime shrubs.  Too hot and dry here all summer and too cold during the winter.

    How does insurance work for peer-to-peer boat rentals?  I'm such a wimp ... I'd buy so much insurance that it would never be profitable.

    On Lake Powell, renting of any private Houseboats isn't allowed, but people skate that rule all the time.  The Concession has the monopoly on the water.

    Well, necessity is the mother of invention....he needs a liveaboard right now so get it in a slip and then work on getting repairs right? Looks perfect, I could live on it...
