She was ready to splash but with an expected crappy weekend I didn’t plan to launch but wanted to get the dock box, the new (to us) dinghy down to the club and fenders and lines on ready. So loaded up the Admiral’s Pilot Trailsport - that thing has more room than the Highlander we had, box slid in with room to spare all round - headed down and got lines and fenders on. A storm was brewing apparently around 30 minutes away but the water was up so screw it, got a friend to grab a truck and get her in. Tied up at the ramp and it poured for another 30 mins but once done she fired up like I ran her yesterday. Docked at home slip, spend the afternoon while it rained again getting inside wiped down, water systems purged, checked AC (yes! it self primed this year) and changed out a noisy mid bilge pump.
With a little help from my son - who did the crawling and laying under the hull - finished polishing the hull and bottom paint touch-ups. Splash is scheduled for next week.
Launched the boat today. River was all good then when we went through the lock to the lake we were hit with a heavy fog. Visibility was about 50 yards. Took about an hour and all my local knowledge (i.e., instinct) and electronics to go the four miles from the lock to our dock. I think I'd rather be in heavy seas instead of fog.
Still in progress, here is the new helm seat base. This will be the color of all the upholstery in the flybridge. All new thicker foam with bolstered sides and front, he also made the armrest longer and wider, this seat is going to be so much more comfortable.
Yesterday was a decent day, warm and sunny and a slight breeze. Washed her for the first time since launch and wiped down the dust and pollen. Fitted new fuel tank fitting to hose on the new (to us) dink and took it for a few runs - what a blast, great little machine. Ended the day with a cocktail and snacks.
Hopefully next weekend take the Rinker out for a shakedown run.
Almost launched yesterday. Had a busy schedule. Boat is 1hour and 45 minutes away. Launch was scheduled for noon-1 pm. After that we would drive the boat to our marina, set things up (mostly unload the car), then head back to Syracuse to catch grandson soccer game.
Left the house at 10:15 with fully packed CX5. 2 miles from home, when pulling away from busy red light, car starts beeping and after a few moments I realize the trunk lid had opened. In the rear view mirror I see the Rinker bag sitting in the road as a car then runs over it.
I quickly pull into a parking lot. Turns out I can’t close the trunk because the locking latch is closed. It is a push button auto open set up and I get no response from either button. I’m thinking blown fuse. Searched all over and could not find the fuse box. After several attempts I rig up an extension cord as a rope to hold the door down by holding onto the loose end in the passenger seat as my wife slowly drives the car back home.
We cancelled the launch. Once home I figure out the way into the back of the locking mechanism, free it up and she’s all fine. (took 2 minutes) My blood pressure is sky high. Will try again in another week.
Was looking over the engine bay today and noticed some staining by my new starboard circulating pump. Turns out the hose for the water heater was leaking slightly with the engine running, I tightened the clamp and it was still seeping a little bit. I went to the pump out to empty the waste tank and back to the dock. With the engine hot I was able to get almost one full turn on the clamp. Hopefully that solves it. If not, I’ll cut the hose some and try again.
Also, I went around both engines and checked all the clamps. I was able to tighten multiple, and I just checked all of them a few weeks ago when I replaced the circulating pumps….
