I also replaced the impeller on my port pump. The inner and outer plates were scored pretty good but the impeller was still in good shape. This was with three seasons of use.
I normally put them back together using Permitex Aviation Gasket sealer. It always made a mess and was a pain when I had to remove the gasket. This time I used DC-111 (Silicone Grease). Should make it much easier to take apart next time.
I sent my leaking starboard pump into Hardin for a rebuild. They said it’s $35/hr. Plus parts. I figured to have them do it, this way it will be covered under warranty if it leaks early.
UPS charges are outrageous as well. We get all kinds of complaints at work of people claiming we are ripping them off. All they get charged is what we get charged - no mark up.
I don’t have a press to remove and install the bearings.
I bought this on a whim, but I can't tell you how many times it's been used and borrowed. For sure, there is better quality but for the price it's hard to beat. I added some polyurethane wheels to easily move it around and it's quite a popular tool to lend out.
When I bought my 330 both of the OEM pumps were leaking. I went with the Hardin pumps because of the removable wear plates. I’m happy with them, this was the 5th season using this pump before it started leaking. I’m not regretting them but yes, they should last longer before the seals wear.
Seems like the Hardin solved a problem that very few people had (wear on the inside end of the pump) but created a bigger problem in that the seals and/or bearings fail much sooner than the OEM pump seals/bearings.
But yes, to your point @Ian , they sure are pretty!

Its actually not a bad deal if you think about how much the rebuild and impeller kits cost.
I don’t have a press to remove and install the bearings. This pump was leaking.

Is the “prettiness” worth the cost?
