Re: 2009 280ec 85 hours HELP ME (:
I had to do some reading to understand the pros and cons. IMHO the cons outweigh the pros. From what i read equivalent 6V vs 12 V setups will have the 6V setups weighing more and costing more. The kicker for me was that if one battery goes out you are dead in the water. if one of my 12v batteries goes out i can still work off of the other one. Costs more, weighs more for minimal increase in AH.

Re: Pet peeves about photos in used boat ads
My personal recommendation when looking at a boat that’s not local is to ask the owner or broker to FaceTime you from the boat. You can instruct them on what you want to see. Even then, things look better in pictures than in person quite often.

ok so i will bite. WHY would someone want to rewire the boat for 6v batteries? Seems to me like they added extra complexity for what benefit?

Oh ok I saw her say 6v but I thought that was a typo. Now it's interesting 🤔
So maybe the first step would be to check behind that battery panel for a lose wire or corrosion on the battery selector knob?

Re: How much power steering fluid do I need?
I asked here and other places when my pump failed - thinking why buy a new pump that really does nothing. Best I got was some performance part suggestion for those that strip off power sapping bits for racing - at a lot higher price that a rebuilt pump and new hose. Was surprised also there wasn’t a stock part.YYZRC said:I am very surprised that someone hasn't come up with a bracket and idler pulley to replace the power steering pump on the port engine. I understand why it is there from a reduced build complexity standpoint but otherwise I don't get it. Perhaps it's so that the parasitic drag is the same on both engines?

Re: High RPM Overheat
I’d still start simple and check that impeller. I know, reading online makes you start to think it has to be complicated as there have been some very complicated and very awesome finds on here…. But most issues are resolved with something simple so start there.

Re: Hours on my boat
Actually, all of the 2002 engines should be compatible. I believe it is only some of the 2001 that are compatible (I like to prove @LaRea wrong when I get the slim opportunity). Either way, the computer is best way to check.

Re: Hours on my boat
If the tachometer works, it will have an hour meter. That's better than nothing, but it can be way off.
The only true reading is the one in the engine's computer. As @skennelly said, you need an engine scanner to read it. You *might* be able to read it with a Vessel View Mobile. Some of the 2002 engines are compatible, and some are not.
