Re: Windlass wont go down- 350 EC
Isnt it set up like a tilt/trim and has 2 solenoids? If so swap the 2. If the down works now and the up doesnt you know it's the solenoid. On tilt/trim a simple lawnmower solenoid works as a cheap replacement until a high amp can be ordered although i used an aftermarket lawn mower solenoid for glow plug activation on a 3.9 turbo diesel for years but it wont have the marine certification.
There is a way to bench test solenoids with a test light or multi meter but you need to know some 12v basics to do so. Lots of solenoid test videos on YouTube for mowers im sure if you want to gain a bit of diy diagnostic knowledge.

Re: gas in generator oil
Most engines in my line of work are both carbed and gravity fed. Not many manufactures put in line fuel cut offs so we see engines that hold 2qts of oil with a gallon of gas in them. Its always fun to service a mower for the spring on a Friday, when the customer comes to get it on a Monday all the fuel from the tank is in the engine. That's fun to explain to the customer how if we could predict these things we'd not be running a lawn equipment repair shop.

Re: Hot day working in the engine room? Crank up some air conditioning!
I used the main AC vent in the cabin (circled below). It has metal vanes that direct the air flow, and I clipped the duct to one of the vanes. It's not like I was trying to capture all of the air coming out of the vent. I just clipped it on there. It took me maybe 60 seconds to set it up.
I normally use a fan, but having actual cold air was a huge improvement.

Re: Is there a better windshield wiper arm?
Mine can be hit or miss. Not always that great. the real problem is if water gets splashed up (instead of it being rain water), it has a little salt that just doesn't wipe off well. I need to add a fluid reservoir with a spray
