Re: What did you do to your boat today

60 feet of 5/16" chain and 220 feet of 5/8" 8-plait.

BTW a few years ago I upgraded from 30' of chain to 60', and it made a big improvement with how the anchor holds.  However, the 30' I added was actually the wrong size chain.  The links were 5/16" diameter, but slightly too long for my gypsy.  When bringing the anchor in for that final 30 feet, the gypsy would grab for two links, then the third link would jump.  It was really loud and annoying.

Now I have 30' of 5/16" BBB and 30' of 5/16" G4, both of which fit my gypsy perfectly.  Very smooth and quiet.

Bonus:  I stowed the other 30' of chain under the v-berth as ballast to help with balance.  Big difference!  Now I probably will not have to use trim tabs at all!

Re: SOLVED after seven years: Outdrive trim works at idle, but not when on plane

I can't explain why the problem changed sides when I swapped trim pumps.  It's either bad record-keeping on my part, or some other issue.  I don't care ... this is a solved problem.  Yessssss!

Re: Toilet won’t flush, fill, or drain

So, I couldn’t chase it down yesterday because I was anchored out with guests. But today took apart the cabinet under the sink in the head. Ground wire came loose. Doesn’t look like it was crimped very well from the factory. I guess it took 18 years to work itself loose. Glad it was an easy fix though. Thanks everyone for your help!

Re: Joke of the Day

The madam opened the brothel door and saw a rather dignified, a well-dressed, good-looking man in his late fifties.

May I help you sir?"  she asked.

The man replied,  "I want to see Valerie."

"Sir, Valerie is one of our most expensive ladies.  Perhaps you would prefer someone else", said the madam.

He replied, "No, I must see Valerie."

Just then, a gorgeous Valerie appeared and announced to the man she charged $5,000 a visit. Without hesitation, the man pulled out five thousand dollars and gave it to Valerie, and they went upstairs. After an hour, the man calmly left.

The next night, the man appeared again, once more demanding to see Valerie.  Valerie explained that no one had ever come back two nights in a row as she was too expensive. "There are no discounts. The price is still $5,000."
Again, the man pulled out the money, gave it to Valerie, and they went upstairs. After an hour, he left.

The following night the man was there yet again. Everyone was astounded that he had come for a third consecutive night, but he paid Valerie and they went upstairs.

After their session, Valerie said to the man, "No one has ever been with me three nights in a row". Where are you from?"

The man replied, "Great Falls."

"Really," she said. "I have family in Great Falls."

"I know." the man said.  "Your sister died, and I am her attorney. She asked me to give you your $15,000 inheritance."

Re: Just ordered my Hill Marine 4x4 Props!!!

I put on a hill marine prop 4x4 big cow 18.75 x 16p.  I'm not 100% on diameter but it's their biggest.  2001 bayliner 2859.  B2 220 hp diesel.  Switched over from stainless solas 3 blade 18.75x19p.

Little over half tank of fuel. 5 gallons of extra fuel for gas genny, the gas genny of 60lbs, packed for a full weekend.  Huge cooler with food/drinks and 40 lbs of ice.  Me solo at the helm.

So far I've gotten about 20.5 mph at 2600 rpms.  I ran out of space to accelerate.  Will be trying it again this weekend.

Hull speeds(where I am most of the time) steering is much more stable with the 4 blade.  Will tell more top end over time. I should be climbing 1000 more rpm wot which im not.  Either my motor is too weak to push a near 10k boat or ive got something limiting my rpms.  Tiny tach to verify my tach is accurate should arrive next week.  Thanks China resistor back order.

Re: Just ordered my Hill Marine 4x4 Props!!!

Switched to 22p 4x4 Hill Marine props today on my 2013 290 with 8.2. Boat had factory 24p on it when I got it and was a pig out of the hole, marine convinced me to switch to 20p Mercruiser props. Ran the 20p for about 18 months, boat was a monster out of the hole and you could feel it when you dropped the hammer but was IMO spinning a lot higher then I wanted (4k RPM for about 28-29mph). Boat would not stay on plan less then 26mph. I suspected that I had some prop slip occurring.

The 22p 4x4 put me at around 30-31mph at 3700rpm, at 4000rpm I am at 35-36mph. Was able to keep the boat on plane down to 3100-3200 at 24-25mph. Hole shot is a bit longer then the 20p and it they do not have the kick the 20p's did. However MPG is way up from 1.2mpg to 1.7mph! All speed/RPM/fuel is from a Vessel View/Simrad setup. Planning on taking it out again this week but so far very happy with the performance.

Re: First trip of the season and new dock neighbor!!

Yes we are planning for another one next week.  Luckily my job only requires about 1 day a week right now 😁.

Re: loud obnoxious boat porn

Fastest for me was 80 MPH. A guy used to come around to the hangar and collect our waste fuel years ago for a boat he had. One day he asked if I wanted to take a ride to thank me for the fuel, I couldn’t pass up a boat ride.... Me thinking it was going to be a big boat with a diesel. We met at the dock @ 6am. He had an 18’ speed boat with an Allison turbine engine in it!

Re: loud obnoxious boat porn

The fastest ive ever been in a boat was 70, maybe 80mph....  there are two that came to kind... one is a 19' dual console with a massive outboard well beyond its rating hanging off it, and thats the 70mph ride, and the other was a bass boat of all things... i want to say it was also 19' and a pioneer- also with a massive outboard it didn't rate... the bass boat had been clocked at touching 100mph... 98.6 to be exact, just like supposed human average temperature, but he didn't run it like that with me that day.

I've never driven a boat over 70... i can say that with absolute certainty... i have been over 60 a lot of times... my current boat, the 212, can hit 62-65 with a 26p prop, but i truly don't see the need.  It'll hit right at 55mph with the 19p five blade and a little more with the 21p tri blade.  Either are fine.  It likes to walk about after 56-58mph anyway and it's really bad above 60..... so...... I'm good.

This drag boat doubles the fastest ive ever been.

Car? Nearing 190mph.
Superbike? Exceeding 200mph by a digit or two.
Boat? Im good at 60.  Heheheheee....
