Re: What did you do to your boat today
Runs like a champ. Had a great day today. Put an hour on it, not a hiccup.YYZRC said:Bought a wrecked Sea-Doo Spark on Copart. Needs a new hull and a few other plastic bits but the powertrain is good. Will be a fun winter project for me and the little guy.

Re: Rinker 280 Sold and gone 😔 NEW BOAT! 😁
We are still alive after our bar crossings. 😬 I will go thru our photos and videos and put some up. Not much to get pictures of on the water. We arrived home in the dark so that was a little interesting.
Nice we have all the docks lit up with new led lights ☀️

Re: What did you do to your boat today
Started her up from her winter's nap. I retorqued the starboard manifolds and risers that I replaced. It’s amazing how loose they get after a heat cycle. I retorqued 3 times, I’ll do it one more after a good run. The ticking exhaust sound I had went away and no more exhaust smell! I also cut the shrink wrap under the rub rail and washed her. In a week or so I’ll take the rest off when she’s ready to go in. Trees this time of year!!

Re: Rinker 280 Sold and gone 😔 NEW BOAT! 😁
Yeah I'll get there 😃 This was a quick photo I took as we came into the marina.
We crossed the Grays Bar today and are docked in Westport WA. Picked a real good time with strong current 🌊 😲. It wasn't that bad just a little exciting cause we also had to dodge all the crab pots on the way down the coast into this entry.
I have a better plan tomorrow as we need to cross outbound on the Grays Bar and then inbound on the Columbia Bar.

Re: Can I pick your collective brains for an engine start problem? '94 Rinker 265, mercruiser 5.7
Sounds like you are going down the right path to me. 12.4 v on a battery isn't necessarily a definite positive that the battery is good. Mine will read 13.3 when fully charged and 11.5 when almost depleted. Try and turn over the engine by hand with a large socket and breaker bar just to make sure the engine isn't siezed for some reason. If the engine spins, batteries are good the next likely culprit is that your starter is dead. I always love how things just decide to die over winter with no use.

Re: Wet wood in the bilge. Is it a problem?
Had this problem in my mid-bilge. Had some delamination in stringer and while repairing it I found the pad for bilge pump was saturated with water. Cut away fiberglass around it and replaced it with epoxy coated marine ply. Fiberglassed back in and gel coated Wouldn’t want to try this in rear bilge without at least one engine out

Re: Wet wood in the bilge. Is it a problem?
My first boat restoration was a 1960s West Wind 21. It was a $250 dollar purchase. I sprayed the entire top side with latex porch patio paint. 30 bucks for white. Thinned it with mineral spirits. No primer, just wash/dewax and roughed the old gel coat with sand paper.
Still looked great when I sold it 6 years later. There's no telling how many times I dropped the mail sail in a hurry and the boom crashed into the cockpit. Never so much as a chip in the paint.
If I ever have to paint a fishing boat or little dingy, latex high traffic paint will be my go to.
