so I went to clean my drive today so I can paint it. Tried to get the outer prop nut off. No dice. Wouldn't budge wa afraid I was going to damage the props. Any issue with using my impact driver on it?

Did you try a breaker bar? I've had to use at least an 18" or longer sometimes to get some loose. And make sure to not over torque when putting it back on.

I will try a bigger breaker. What concerned me was the blades on the prop were starting to flex.

maybe maybe warm ita bit with a heat gun

I would think you’ll be okay with an impact driver if the breaker bar doesn’t work.

Got those bolts off. Must have been installed with an impact. Mine is rated at 1200 foot lbs and my guess they were installed at about 500. Now I can finish prepping the drive for paint.

Installed the new VHF (Raymarine Ray53) and AIS (Em-Trak B921) - wired as suggested by @LaRea and others. Everything powered up OK, and VHF voice worked fine (tested with a portable) but since I'm in an all steel building and rack storage boats above me, I can't test anything that relies on GPS because I don't have a clear sky view. (GPS alarms were going off because of no signal.)

Same thing happened when I installed a new active GPS antenna last year. I thought it wasn't working because the MFD couldn't find it - and it wasn't until the boat was outside and receiving a clear GPS signal that it displayed on the MFD.

Fingers crossed it all works in the Spring.

Finished painting my drive and installed the new cockpit cover. I am over all the zippers and snaps involved with the camper back.
  • rasburyrasbury Member Posts: 8,462 ✭✭✭✭✭
Very nice....where did you get the cover? Mine is about done...

I had it made by a local down here. He has years of upholstery experience but is just getting started on boats. Most of his work has been with the cruise lines. Easy guy to work with

So I'm beginning to research my autopilot/ then radar upgrades.
I have to Simrad go9 now connected to my engines and a NMEA 2000 network with a smartcraft gateway which this forum was a great help setting up everything.
    Going to install a Simrad Nss16 Evo3s Chartplotter/Fishfinder Mfd with a bracket
and use it to build my new system with newest hardware.
Will need Auto pilot drive, rudder sensor, heading or precision compass, and eventually a Simrad halo 24 radar. any recommendations.

I've always thought so too @GMSLITHO but it's not like a much longer boat would fit on it. The wench will move up a couple ft but that's about it.

river is still really high- but had to run it up the river a bit and out accross the lake. Won't be much time through the end of year.

Cold weather is back. Pulled the second Whaler. Pulled the Grady. Did a riser and elbow on the Pacemaker. Will do the other side tomorrow and pull the boat during the week. Rooting for warmer weather and an early spring

On to other toys for winter km sure. Fl is boring in fl - nothing to do in the winter. We can boat...but below 70 is a tuff sell to florida folks.

Today I decided it would be fun to drill yet another hole in the boat. I wanted a washdown pump to hose off the dock (lots of goose turds in spring) and any dirt that might make its way to the swim platform. I went with the Aquor Deckwash port since it features a quick 1/4 turn connection and check valve. The 80psi pump will be installed later, and I'm converting the windshield wiper switch since it never gets used.

I think that looks great.  Except, I use my wiper quite often.  Between a few times getting in some rain and those occasional days where the wind is from the side or bow and a nice splash on the windshield.  Do you not have an accessory switch?

Did you buy a pump yet? I just took out our never used washdown pump last year. I'll send it to you for the cost of postage. I think it's a Jabsco. It's still on the boat in storage so not sure about model. I'm going to the boat next week and can get the details if you're interested.

That wash down port is great. When the kids bring out their water guns and make me a target,  I can hit them from almost 20 ft away.

Yes, the accessory is used for something else right now. I'll rig it so I can easily swap it back, I just didn't want to add another switch somewhere else (yet) and I never use the wiper, since this is a summer-only boat at the moment.

Yes, I already have the new one. :(   I really appreciate it though! Hopefully someone else gets inspired and takes you up on the offer.
