Fall Boating

WillhoundWillhound Member Posts: 4,187 ✭✭✭✭✭
Trying to squeeze everything I can out of what's left of the season. We all post those great pics of the beautiful sunny days, cold drinks, raft ups and parties. But I just like being on the water. Anytime. Got out this past Tuesday. Couldn't convince anybody to go as the day was less than perfect. But went out for a fuel run and a lap around the bay anyway.

55 F - Check
20 MPH Wind - Check
Grey Overcast Skies - Check
Choppy With the odd Horse Tail- Check
NOBODY Else on the Entire Bay - Check
A Couple of Hours on the Rinker - Priceless!

The weather here was nothing like that!  Took the boat to DC last night to watch pre-season hockey.  Nice little overnighter.

    That sounds awesome @LaRea.
Being almost 600 miles south of us helps.

As it turns out, the Admiral and I were planning what would likely have been our last anchor out for the season this weekend. And then we both fell ill with a nasty cold/flu. And it's currently about 47 F and raining here right now. Rats. Double Rats. I'd use stronger language but I know the forum software would filter it out. Settling for a hot toddy in front of the fireplace watching West Virginia kick Texas Tech in the a$$.

It’s a little chilly here in Pittsburgh, but the admiral and I are enjoying the day/evening on the river. We are currently tied up outside PNC Park listening to the Ed Sheeran concert.

@Willhound  I totally get it . A less than perfect day in the Fall, grey skies, leaves changing colours and floating on the bay, nobody on the water and nobody wants to go out with me. Long pants with a polar fleece jacket with life jacket on for extra warmth reflecting on the past season. I like being alone on the water at times to clear my head listening only to the purr of the v8. Wind changes from southwest to the northeast in the Fall. You know its over for the year, but its ok.

Right around this time all my smaller boat friends seem to go into hibernation till May.. now it's time to hang out with similiar size boats... my usual crew is busy on land today, may just go out myself and get ready for the work week. not sure yet!

Well, I hope some of you do get out today. Still very messed up with whatever bug I've caught and about 46F out right now and a forecast of rain all afternoon. So another dry land day for me. Going to head down to the marina just to check on things and make sure she's secure. Had a break in about 3 slips down from me last week. I've resigned myself to the thought that I might not get another overnight this season, but it will get out a few more times even if I have to wear a freakin' snow suit!

My wife  said this morning maybe you should go out in the boat and within 40 minutes I was on the water.  Too cold for the Admiral but not for me !

We’re out cruising now on the Mohawk. Next weekend will be the last as we make our way through the Waterford flight and then down to Coeymans Landing Marina for her to be hauled, cleaned, serviced, winterized and put away inside for the winter.

Definitely a beautiful weekend here! Cruised for several hours yesterday in Annapolis yesterday. Chilled and watched football on the boat last night. Right now in a park getting ready to hear my son and about 25 others play steel drums! I love sound of steel drums! I feel like I'm in the Caribbean!

Yup, ended up hanging out with 4 or 5 other boats today, all big ones. Didn't see many of the small boats out.. then this guy pulled up, dropped anchor and showed us all that our 30-38 ft boats were nothing  :D

Me and my brother in law are actually looking to get a sea ray 480 sedan bridge
i sold my Rinker and he still has his 33 amberjack
he want to sell it next season and possibly go half with me on a 480
it would be a perfect footing condo and make trips fun for the entire family without taking two boats

Well if you get a boat that size it’s nice to have deep pockets or a split lol
plus we usually boat together anyway
    Example
in May we went up to Lake Huron  for the holiday
i ended up letting two of his passengers aka his kids sleep on my boat
With 480 you can entertain the entire block lol

His best friend has a 400 bridge and it’s great
only issue my wife has is the open deck area is little to tight.
    480 is double that.
other option is to step up
    to a 440 express dancer
like his friend said I use to live down below but now I like to see sun rise and sun up

Agree on the fly, funds permitting we’d love to move in to a 40ish foot fly with diesels in 3-5 yr. Not a ton out there with diesels but we love the fly layout.
