I am surprised that there aren't any reservoirs on the Potomac to hold back water. In Pittsburgh we have 15 flood control reservoirs on 3 different watersheds. Unfortunately for us, they are full and the USACE is dumping water to empty them to prep for Flo. That is keeping our rivers high, but under flood stage.
Good luck and be safe. I hope that nothing major happens.

Well, right now my boat is raised higher than any of the others on my dock. She's easily fine for a 8' surge. I thought about raising her up more, but that should work fine. Dock box is empty as well. I didn't empty out the fridges in case they turn power off, but if that is the worst of my worries, then it'll be fine.
Good luck to all, especially those in the Carolinas!
La Rea is hauled and blocked. Maybe it's overkill, but I needed to power-wash the hull anyway. (My five-year-old bottom paint is history.)
If we get 6' above normal high tide, it'll reach my jackstands. At 8', it could float the boat next to me. At 10', my boat would be floating, along with everything in the basement at my house.
I am out and blocked. Tucked back in the corner so at least if i do get floated it isn't going far. @Handymans342 i was just joking about the anchor. At this point all you can do is just see what happens. The water was dock level at 6am which is just 2 hrs before high tide.
I am out and blocked at Rhode River(thanks for the tip @Dream_Inn). Gives me a chance to power wash and I am going to wax the hull while out. Gives me a little jump on fall maintenance.
Good luck to all you guys affected by this, its gotta be no fun at all, and not just for the boat. Property damage, loss of income due to time off work, it's a huge ordeal.
It makes me appareciate Michigan and the Great Lakes, honestly. The worst we ever have to deal with is some minor flooding and thunderstorms.
Side question, do you leave batteries in while out shortly or take them out?
You should be able to leave in, just turn switches off. If it's longer than a week, you may want to disconnect. Ask Brian his thought on this while you are there.
Not in summer. Stuff like this hurricane makes me happy I'm where we are too. Best wishes and luck to all in the path, we're thinking of you. And Handy, we can always go south in winter / non-hurricane season.

Sun is out and we are going to be spared a lot on this one but tide is still bad. This is downtown Annapolis in 2003 for Isabel. The head on the statue is Alex Haley (Roots) and is about 4ft above ground.
Had to edit this quickly when i realize it WASN'T today. This is a pic today. Still high but not "Can Alex Haley swim" high.
It really looks like DC could dodge a bullet this time. @Dream_Inn it's only because I hauled my boat, and the Admiral got some sandbags. You're welcome.
Thanks @LaRea! I also put my boat up high and emptied my dock box, so I'm sure that helped as well. The admiral was asking me if we are going to the boat Saturday morning Gotta love her!
Here is ours from this past weekend. One before and one after. Notice the height of the pilings. Probably up about 8' in the after pic. We are about 25 miles NW of Pittsburgh. Notice the pavilion I'm standing in and look at the 2nd pic. The railings are under water.
EDIT: links aren't working for me and I can't embed directly?

I talked to my daughter in Frederick, Maryland and she said they had street flooding from Gordon. They expect more/higher water levels from Florence
