My Faria depth gauge was not functioning, but It wasn't a big deal because I could just read the depth off of my Garmin. It was a bit inconvenient though because the Garmin is off to the side and it's not always easy to see the depth right away.
So today I installed a Veratron VMH Flex 2" digital display. I also installed a NMEA2000 network to connect it to the Garmin.
Now I should be able to see the depth much more clearly while cruising (specifically when standing up at the wheel). I'm pretty happy with the Veratron. You can add multiple pages of data, and navigate between them. You configure it with an app, and it uses NFC to write the config to the display, extremely simple to set up:.
I'm also happy to have the NMEA2000 network set up. Hoping to get the engines networked in this winter.
The marina I am at is shutting down. I found a dock on the Tarpon river so the boat is going from rack to water storage. Thought I would get the drive up to date with new bellows, trim rams and trim sensors. I didn't have time for OJT learning and I would probably just screw it up anyway so I hired a mechanic to do the work and he was agreeable to me going along and watching the process. The minute he pulled the drive about a quart of drive fluid poured out of the gimble. Bought a seal kit, when he pulled the upper unit apart he found a quarter inch groove in the shaft where it should seal . So now I have to buy a new shaft. This is all on a drive that was supposedly rebuilt by professionals . I probably don't have 50 hrs. on it. I think every flim flam man in the country is in South Florida. This kind of stuff sure takes the joy out of boat ownership.

This is no different than fraud, IMHO. I hope you go after them, even if it's just small claims.
I have just tried to do anything myself because of this. I did have someone replace a shaft seal on the prop shaft and the coupler. I have pulled the motor myself and done a ton of repairs ( with all of your's help!) But the level of nut jobs, especialy for boats is overwhelming.
@rasbury, I would have liked to do it myself. After the first round of being dupped finding someone I could trust was nerve wracking. After reading some of your exploits I just didn't feel like i had the skillset to accomplish the task and get the boat out of the Marina before it shuts down. I Think I have the right guy now. Time will tell but he sends pictures of all the problems and the parts pricing has been spot on and he doesn't mind me looking over his shoulder. @Formulaben , These characters are still on the run, convoluted ownership and a string of victims.
@mbnarney sorry for your problems as well...I think it's kind of like auto repair- if you go to the dealer you typically have a team of mechanics that work together on their jobs with a service writer so you have some really experienced mechanics and then some new guys- but usually they have to be on the path for certification and certainly a non certified guy is not working on your transmission alone. They also get the TSB information quickly and they always have factory support. When you go to the independent shops it's always going to be hit and miss. You can have some good guys, guys that think they are good and then some idiots. Where I store my boat he is to old to work on i/o motors at all- but really I have not had much motor issues really..
Got humpty put back together. Ran it out and its running great. So far no problems. Moved to a dock on the Tarpon River about 15 minutes to the Intercoastal and another 15 to the cut. Just looking forward to using the boat more.

Did it come with a transducer?
So far I'm impressed, I'd definitely recommend them.
