    Continuing with my helm glow-up...

My Faria depth gauge was not functioning, but It wasn't a big deal because I could just read the depth off of my Garmin. It was a bit inconvenient though because the Garmin is off to the side and it's not always easy to see the depth right away.

So today I installed a Veratron VMH Flex 2" digital display. I also installed a NMEA2000 network to connect it to the Garmin.

Now I should be able to see the depth much more clearly while cruising (specifically when standing up at the wheel). I'm pretty happy with the Veratron. You can add multiple pages of data, and navigate between them. You configure it with an app, and it uses NFC to write the config to the display, extremely simple to set up:.

I'm also happy to have the NMEA2000 network set up. Hoping to get the engines networked in this winter.

The Garmin came with the transducer. The Veratron reads that info from the Garmin.

Yes, awesome....I wish I had the ability to understand what you're saying...but sounds awesome! I just struggle with understanding electronics set up.

Nice work.  Veratron is a company to watch.  They are putting out some innovative products ... trying to compete with Yacht Devices.

It's actually a lot more simple than it sounds. The whole process was plug and play.

So far I'm impressed, I'd definitely recommend them.

The marina I am at is shutting down. I found a dock on the Tarpon river so the boat is going from rack to water storage. Thought I would get the drive up to date with new bellows, trim rams and trim sensors. I didn't have time for OJT learning and I would probably just screw it up anyway so I hired a mechanic to do the work and he was agreeable to me going along and watching the process. The minute he pulled the drive about a quart of drive fluid poured out of the gimble. Bought a seal kit, when he pulled the upper unit apart he found a quarter inch groove in the shaft where it should seal . So now I have to buy a new shaft. This is all on a drive that was supposedly rebuilt by professionals . I probably don't have 50 hrs. on it.   I think every flim flam man in the country is in South Florida. This kind of stuff sure takes the joy out of boat ownership.

This is no different than fraud, IMHO. I hope you go after them, even if it's just small claims.

I have just tried to do anything myself because of this. I did have someone replace a shaft seal on the prop shaft and the coupler. I have pulled the motor myself and done a ton of repairs ( with all of your's help!) But the level of nut jobs, especialy for boats is overwhelming.
