.....sorry guys can't harass Steve about being slow???? REALLY? My gasser does 50 MPH - 48 on a slow day. I can drag a friggin' couch behind my old banana bike faster than 32 MPH - because 32 MPH, particularly for a Rinker 342 -  IS slow!!!! Way too funny 32 MPH HaHa.....the "Bad News" is, even with new throttle cables, Steve's boat is still a DOG - I say that with love....sort of

$100 dollar bills disapear fast at that speed

...... and we had better spend those $100 bills fast as there is a move by the treasury to discontinue them!

Both my transom plates were replaced before I bought the FV312. The owner also replaced the generator and stern drives. I'll never know if I would of had that issue.  I am glad the owner did all the work before selling it to me.  I'll say this the owner is docked the next slip over from me.  Which makes me feel he wasn't trying to hide anything.

@handy. did you ever find out what caused the cracked transom assembly? after you had it repaired. Just wondered if they gave you any insite, why?

Yes. If you read the thread it was a bad fiberglass prep around the transom area that left a high spot. Caused the bracket to crack. Happened on other 342s as well

Wow, that is news to me. After all my years with Rinkers I have never heard of any transom issues. Every time I have spoken with techs for over 25 years they all say the transoms of Rinkers (unlike a LOT of other boat builders) could withstand an atomic blast. When I thought of putting a 390 HP engine in the 190 Rinker I used to own I had a top glass guy go over it for about an hour. He said go ahead - he had never seen an entry level boat with such a robust transom build. Its been almost 20 years since that install and that little boat with that torque monster is still going strong..........Must be the dreaded diesel curse Steve?

But do they sell diesel in the Conch Republic? They are big on their electric cars and such.

Shallow waters, yes.  But the channels are well marked.  Diesel?  another question entirely.

There is actually a guy at the entrance to our club with an M60 looking for diesels. I told him he could easily use a smaller calibre as the diesels are so slow but he said he didn't want to waste the ammo so he wanted a one shot and done. LOL

  • Michael TMichael T Member Posts: 7,241 ✭✭✭✭✭
Steve, that's because it's classified as a "retirement marina" - nothing has to be able to move fast there!
