LoL @Handymans342 , special filters designed by Rolls Royce. I’m not sure of a cabin cycle inspection, if there is one, I’m sure the number is extremely high.

@YYZRC they can’t risk weakening the material. That old cowling will have the leading edge removed and a new one installed. Then be sold as a repaired unit, probably for $800,000.00 🙄 LoL

Steering pin will leak.

Yes they are.

RR have had issues with their Trent 1000’s and some fan blade issues.

Years ago, I did some work with an investment casting factory.  You wouldn't believe what it takes to manufacture those turbine blades.  The labor, the huge amounts of energy consumed ... it's quite a process.

I have one from an older Gulfstream GIV . It’s an amazing design. The newer blades are even more complex.

I don’t know how it happened but it’s warped in a couple of spots.

The really complex ones have coolant or cold air running through passages inside the blade.

@aero3113 What RPM do those motor turn at? They must have extremely tight tolerances.

I think around 12,500 maybe more. They say around 900 hp per blade 😳.

The fan typically spins 3000-4000 RPMs. The low pressure and high pressure shafts spin much much faster. If the fan was spinning any faster, it would go supersonic and become noisy and less efficient.

Your right @69fastback , I was thinking HP and LP. Jet engines are noisy because they are spinning close to supersonic, they would really scream at supersonic. LoL

Yet the extreme reliability of them is unmatched. Pretty awesome design.

Fan blades on the G650. Near the tips of the blades you can see what looks like a barcode laser etched, it’s actually for balancing.

I like the pictures and chat about those jet engine's. i think it's great even though it's a boating forum. Oh as @LaRea said we are a drinking forum with a boating problem.
