Okay, just to make sure I'm not misunderstood:  DHMO is water.  DHMO is a famous spoof on the idea that anything -- even water -- can be made to sound scary and dangerous by using technical language in certain ways.

I was reminded of DHMO while doing background research on COVID-19.  It's hard to separate facts from fear-mongering.

Then again ... DHMO is the chief component of acid rain.  And every year, hundreds of boats are destroyed by unplanned entry of DHMO.  Do we need risks like that in our daily lives?!?

Have they closed off all the day trip spots along/between islamarada/largo? I noticed back in june many of the spots were limiting people.  Even before covid the places were all over crowded and trashed with litter.

I’m not concerned anyways. I’m required to wear this sweet mask.

    @69fastback = furloughed since march 28th ?
  • Lake_BumLake_Bum Member Posts: 988 ✭✭✭✭
No furlough here. The railroad slowed down in April and May, but we are slammed again now.  The term "essential" has lost all importance to me.

No, I’ve been employed, just nOT working. That will end on October 1st though when the CARES act expires.

Well, the uncertainty of having a job past September doesn’t make that real comfortable. With demand being so low that I don’t get called in for a flight for 4 months, I’m sitting at home knowing that I’m about to lose my job, and the only reason I still have it is because the government bailout money we took stipulates no furloughs until October 1st. I’d rather be working every day, so when October gets here, I’ll still have a job. I did what aero does for 20 years, flying corporate, and made great money doing it, and finally made the jump to airlines last year, because in a couple of years I’ll be making more money, but really the airlines provide a better quality of life at home because you get a schedule, and that’s something corporate flying can’t give you. I was tired of being on the hook every single day. The downside is the first year pay at the airlines is abysmal. I took over a $100K paycut for first year pay. Second year pay more than doubles, and is survivable, but we are supplementing with savings until I hit second year pay, which would happen in November, but since I’m a low seniority number, I will probably not make it to the pay raise. So, sitting at home hasn’t been as fun as you’d think.

I fly for an airline, so I’ve still been on reserve, which means I’m on call and still have to be ready to go to work 18 days out of the month. It was just now that I actually got called for a trip.

My wife just flew up to DC and plane was empty

My flight from Phoenix to DC on Sunday had maybe 30 people aboard.  And somehow, I still ended up three rows away from a screaming baby.

Some babies cry with cute little cooing sounds.  This was not that baby.  It was like somebody tied two bobcats together by their tails, and threw them over a clothesline.  And, with 220 seats and only 30 passengers, why did I have to sit near the ONLY person not wearing a mask?    :D

On the plus side, we left the gate 10 minutes ahead of schedule because boarding was so quick.

What airline let someone on without a mask?  Were they claiming they couldn’t wear one for medical reasons?

American doesn't require masks for infants.
  • 69fastback69fastback Member Posts: 951 ✭✭✭

You don’t have the Bose noise canceling muffs??
  • LaReaLaRea Member, Moderator Posts: 7,763 mod
I do, but they only cancel the low-frequency stuff.  I had to drown out the crying with music.
