    I’ve never heard of different plugs based on the sound cover. I always used the plugs BD said to use and I always left my sound cover completely on.

    @Liberty44140 , I’ve read on a couple of sites that the 5ES plus are a cooler plug than the 4ES and are used with the sound shield. I’ll stick with the 4ES plugs if that’s what everyone is using.

    I've always use 4ES and keep my sound shield on.

    I have my sound shield off...it would not run with it on when I first got it, don't recall trying it after I did a tune up or not!

    I have had Ac delco R44xls Plugs in my generator for 4 seasons now put about 45 hours a season on them!

    That Kohler will run on one cylinder and sound fine, right until a decent load is added. Been there..and a few other issues too. lol.  Personally, the NGK’s do better than Delco’s in the 5e. 

    It took me YEARS and a whole lot of time, effort and money to find out (by accident) my 5e will just not run with the sound enclosure service panel installed.

    I agree with BD, it will run on one cylinder.  I had that happen two different times.  Originally the valve springs were too tight on one cylinder, not allowing it to close properly and built up carbon crap all around it.  The other time was when one of the two coils went out.  You may have a bad coil.  When one of mine went, I actually bought a spare because I was told it may not be too far behind.  I think buying it actually has kept me from needing it :smile:

    @Dream_Inn , is this the correct coil? I like to have spare parts onboard.

    Yes, that is what I use on my 7.3 Kohler, which is the same on the 5E as well.

    @aero3113 that’s what my mechanic wanted to use,I had actually bought the ngk ones still have them, he wanted to use the ac delco ones

    I ran the generator today for about 40 minutes with the AC on and a couple other items with no issues. I ended up replacing the plugs anyway. I ran it again after the plugs were installed for about 15 minutes and it shut down with an EC69 code. I think this is an O2 sensor fault. I cleared it and ran it again, it shutdown after about 15 minutes again with the EC69 code. Anyone ever have this code?

    EC69 is an O2 switching fault. There is a separate circuit board for the O2 sensor that has its own battery pack on it. I just ordered it and an O2 sensor to be safe.

    LoL, couldn’t really play with the generator over the winter besides usual maintenance items. Now that I can run it, some issues are popping up. Hopefully after this it will run with no issues.

    I replaced the PCB assembly and the EC69 code went away and the generator ran longer than 15 minutes. I ran the generator for about a half hour with the ac running and used a shop vac with no issues. I went to turn on the range, I put both burners on and the generator bogged down and shut off with the UU (Under Voltage) code. I read that there is an SCR module that can go bad, it allows loads to be added when the generator is running. I also found the F6 15 Amp breaker blown. This is output for the voltage regulator and allows the generator to charge its battery. Im going to replace the SCR module and the fuse (cheap parts) and hopefully it will be good to go. I’m thinking the SCR module is intermittent when things heat up.

    I also noticed with the generator on line the Volt meter only reads 110 Volts or so, but it also reads this plugged in with shore power on. I also remember it reading low plugged in at the house also. Shouldn’t it be at 120 volts? I think the gauge is off. When I get a chance I’ll put a meter on the generator and see exactly what is being put out.

    You can't really go by that analog meter.

    @aero3113 what type of fasteners are those on the PCB?

    The fasteners are just a post split in 4 with with a ridge and some tension on them. You just press them in and pull the board off. To go back on you just snap the board right on.

    That manual is definitely nice to have.

    @Black_Diamond - you said your genny won't run with the sound shield cover on.  Does it stall when you install the cover?  If so, maybe the problem is the fuse holders.  See this discussion:

    @LaRea. Thx for that link. I’ll have to look today if I have that fuse set up, don’t think so.  Mine will run with the service cover on for 10-15 min then just dies. So service panel door: runs for days. 

    I’m on diagnostic mission today with my 5e. It will randomly sound like it is massively loaded up, random ‘backfire’ sounds then goes back to normal. New one for me...thought I had about experienced every 5e issue there was. lol

    I replaced the SCR module today, easy to replace. Six connections to it. It still shuts down with a load (UU code) . I’m starting to get frustrated with it. I pulled the plug wires one at a time to make sure both cylinders were firing and both were firing. Any other ideas?
