Well, for all you saying the OEM is great, the reason I switched over is because I had the bearing go bad from leaking seals on my OEMs.  I've had this happen with 3 of them across 2 different boats.  They did have quite a few hours on them, but, I do know most of you are getting close to that time with your OEM (I wouldn't brag too much  ).  I saw two OEMs go on my dock just this summer.  & when you try to buy a new OEM, watch out for that price (BOAT).

When I switched to the Hardin pump 8 years ago, it was the only pump for my engines that had replaceable wear plates.

@LaRea did you have a pump or impeller failure due to scoring?

Yes.  The OEM pump body didn't look bad, but it wouldn't pump enough water to cool the engine.  That's why I switched to Hardin (plus they were cheaper than OEM).

A much better designed pump is a “Johnson” brand crank driven pump.   Very very similar to what Volvo uses but better
I was gonna make a similar comment. Is it not simple enough to put this type of pump on a Merc?

Are you now using these pumps instead of Hardin, @Alswagg ?

Wish I had paid more attention, just had my raw water pump replaced...with another OEM one. Dam.

The impeller still looks like new. Some scoring on the outer wear plate, not too bad. I can see a little on the inner wear plate also.

I shipped it out this morning for overnight delivery. They should have it before 6PM tomorrow. Hopefully they do a quick turn around…..

@aero3113 those wear plates have enough wear to start losing efficiency.  I replaced my port impeller this weekend because the engine was running hot.  It looked not much worse than yours.

    Cool trick for replacing impellers:

Sometimes, the inner wear plate falls out easily, but sometimes it refuses to come out.  You can tap the pump with a mallet or 2x4 a million times, and the plate won't shake loose.

Here's the trick:  Dry the wear plate with a paper towel.  Stick a little blob of butyl tape onto it.  Pull the butyl tape, and the plate will pull right out.

@LaRea , I have a new impeller and plates to install when it comes back. But I’m curious if they will be generous to send me new when it returns.

Yes things are slow on here lately. Getting close to the end of boating season for most. Now we will get the how to winterize questions and some outdrive maintenance questions/below the waterline maintenance.

Pump was rebuilt and sent out today, full rebuild with impeller 👍🏻.
They weren’t as quick as I was hoping, they received it last Wednesday around 1:00. I was told they would work it as soon as they received it. I called yesterday and they said it’s on the bench being worked. It was shipped out today. If there are no leaks when it goes in, I’ll be happy!

@YYZRC I Installed the pump today and no leaks. Of course my wife and the girls are sick! So not a boating weekend for us. This is the extent of my boating today! Just to test out the pump, and it’s beautiful out!!’😢.

I was up in the air about leaving the pulley on when I sent it out, I decided to leave it on. When I received the pump there were two dents on the pulley. Not an issue but **** me off to see it come back like that.
