I was running the Generator at the dock and it shut down with a LOC. I checked the strainer and wasn’t really any concern. Instead of going right for the impeller I checked the flow of water coming in with the strainer cup off, barely nothing. I then took the hose off and used a hangar to try and clear out the valve and then blew some air through (was very restricted by mouth). I have a stream now but not as much as I would think there should be. I know the diameter of the ball valve isn’t that big, but I should have a good amount of water coming in correct?
Lots of it, you might have a blocked thruhull, mine is 3/4"
I’m going out for dinner Saturday night, hopefully the run can clear it. If I can get back there tonight or tomorrow I’ll try to blow it out with a shop vac. If that doesn’t work I’ll unscrew the valve and see if I can see anything.
You might have a strainer on the bottom over the thru-hull inlet that has picked up some weed or some garbage. I would not unscrew the valve if you are in the water!. Attach a piece of hose to it that is above the waterline, open the valve and use a rod to poke down through it.
@Grahamu I’m sorry! I had to go against your word. I tried the shop vac, heard bubbles but nothing, the flow actually stopped after I did that. I tried the hanger again with no luck. I didn’t have two wrench big enough to remove the fitting from the valve so I went for it. Removed the valve and it was stuffed with seaweed, no water at all. Once it was removed all was good. The valve was surprisingly easy to put back on with the water coming in. I had plugs ready if things got out of hand.
