    Well….
I think I need to replace the intake. Yesterday I noticed some weird condensation/moisture on the bottom of the intake under the thermostat. I cleaned the area and didn’t see any issues, looked solid. I went back to the boat this morning to look things over and clean mating surfaces. I noticed where I cleaned the intake had some moisture and corrosion back. It must be thin and seeping water through. I don’t think it’s my issue but will be an issue in the future if I don’t replace it. I didn’t take a picture of it this morning but will take a look tomorrow and see what it looks like. Also, I just looked closely and there might be a crack.

Looks like I can order just the lower part of the manifold.

I all of a sudden have a hankering for a yoohoo drink  .  Sorry, that oil just looks like chocolate milk.  I agree with the crack and replacement.  Definitely don't want to dig back in there another time.

    lol, yea.
Lower intake and gasket are on order. Should have them in a few days. I’m curious what the inside of the intake is going to look like once I open it up.

I have the intake in my garage, went to take a look at it. You can see the moisture starting to make its way through from when I wiped it this morning. Tomorrow morning will really show.

I’ve been reading that this is a common area for this to happen. During the off season, I’ll see if I can stick my borescope in and check the starboard side.

Have you check the manifold on the other motor?

I took the intake apart today. As soon as I pulled off the top, I saw a pretty big flake of paint in the number one injector. I just don’t know if it chipped off or fell in when I pulled the top off. Pretty coincidental. Top side of the intake inside was pretty dirty, got that all cleaned up. I stopped over at the machine shop today, he should be done today. There was a low spot between 3 & 5 and one of the valves wasn’t seating all the way around, I believe it was the #1. The thermostat was a bit@h to get out! I had to use a slide hammer!

I just said to myself that I should look into all of the injectors. Sure enough, there was a chip of paint in the #5 injector! I know my cool fuels were replaced. They probably didn’t clean out the injectors at that time. This engine always was a little lower in RPM’s but was still within range. I always blamed it on the gauge.

Heard back from the machine shop. He was pressuring checking the #1 exhaust valve and couldn’t get it to hold pressure. Sure enough, there was a small spot that rusted through! New heads on order $1350 using my valves and springs. The previous owner replaced the heads on the starboard side before I bought the boat, so good there. Just need to check that intake over the winter.

I found an invoice from the previous owner and same thing happened on the Starboard side heads. He paid $1300.00 just for the heads and close to $4000 total for the job back in 2017. Looks like I’m getting a good deal on the heads.

Wishing I just replaced the heads last season when I had everything apart.

Yes, could’ve been worse if all of this didn’t happen now.

I got the opposite head off to bring to the shop on Monday. The exhaust shutters were gone on that side! I ordered EMP shutters, half the price of OEM. $50 for one set instead of $100. I bought 2 sets. I’ll look the other side over and if it still looks good, I’ll keep it for future use. The company has a good reputation. There’s cheaper on Amazon but I don’t want to chance them.

Good you caught it before more damage was done. Kind of amazing it would run well on water!

    2, 4, 6 and 8 plugs looked good. Maybe a little lean (thinking intake leak) but no where’s near 1, 3, 5 and 7!

@rasbury , If I didn’t open the engine compartment and see the milky oil, I probably would’ve tried to use the boat again. Besides the initial starter noise and a little lower RPM’s I couldn’t tell there was an issue. They say it only takes a little bit of water in the oil to turn it milky.

Am I correct in thinking that the shutter pieces went out the exhaust? Brovo drives aren’t like Alpha’s where they will get caught and you have to remove the drive to remove the pieces. I wanted to stick my borescope in but didn’t want to do it with water in the pipe.
