2nd place at one of the largest gilt shows around and she made sale. This is a very very hard thing to do. Most people never make it to sale at a major.

Impressive and congratulations. But I don't think I could do it knowing what happens to them in the end. They would be like pets to me.

That is a breeding gilt, so it sells to a breeder to have litters. She will live a life of producing more show pigs.
We do have 3 market barrows, and they become bacon. These major shows are a one way street for market barrows, no matter how they place. Once you unload them in the building, you don’t take them home. It’s always a tough day, and really bittersweet when you win, but that’s what this is. You know it before you start.
@RiverRat232. Maybe? Really can’t be much more than any V-8 outboard and all the joystick controls. I’d venture to say with most applications being 3-5 of these those boat owners just write checks and move on. lol
the downside to these multi outboard boats is if you were to lose an engine, few places overhaul them so they are ‘throw-aways’ at that point. But then you buy a new one and it does not match the others; so now you are buying 2,3,4 more so they match!

So does the winning bidder take it home that day or do you arrange for a later drop-off? Does you daughter get to say good-bye, and does it get emotional? I think I would be.

Well, it’s mildly complicated. Yes, if you sell it, and it sells for what you want, they take it. As the seller, I have the option to buy it back for 10% of the sale price. I have 3 high quality breeders that want her, so if she brings less than ~$1500-$2000 then I’ll buy her back and keep her. Then I’ll sell her to one of these other breeders with the option to get first pick of any of their litters next year. So we may, or may not, leave her here and someone else take her. She just finished 3rd in today’s show, which is freaking awesome.
I have been around pigs before and they are intelligent animals with unique personalities. Almost like a dog. I could see myself raising pigs but I don't think I have it in me to send them to slaughter after getting to know one. But, I am glad some people can because I love me some bacon.

Fourth smartest animal on the planet. You do get attached, but such is the circle of life. My daughter is learning so much and she had to work extra hard this year, and she has 6 pigs and 3 of them are very difficult. Look at jolene strut her stuff!
