A guy is on a cruise ship for the first time in his life. He's never been on a boat before. The weather turns and it gets real nasty all of a sudden. The boat is tossed all over the place, and eventually lists to one side and starts sinking. Everyone is lost at sea, except for this guy. He ends up on a deserted island.
After days trying to figure out how to survive, he sees a Genie bottle float up, and says, "Don't believe in this stuff, but what do I have to lose." So he gives it a rub, and sure enough a Genie pops out of the bottle, and says "I've only been stuck in that lamp for 30 years, and so I'll grant you a single wish, as an expression of my gratitude."
So the guy thinks and says, "Well, I'd like to get off this island. I don't want to take a boat after that incident, and I can't fly, too scared of heights, so ... can you build me a bridge from here to the mainland, and I'll walk."
The Genie replies, "Are you nuts, do you know how far the mainland is from here. That would be one insanely long bridge. Please ask another wish of me, that one is way too much to handle."
So the guy thinks a while longer and says, "Well, if I'm going to be stuck on this island, I'd like to at least know the answer to something that's been bothering me for a long time. Can you help me understand what I have to do to please my wife? I've never got that right, and I always seem to be in trouble with her, most times not even knowing for what."
The Genie hangs his head low, looking perplexed, and says, "OK, how many lanes do you want on that bridge."
