    how difficult is to install the full cover in your boat

    @oscar1 it’s not bad, but very heavy. I didn’t have help and was able to install it myself - I’m no @rando3113 but I can usually work smart!

    Since you don’t have a snow load to worry about, you could use a much lighter “beam” from bow to hardtop. I used a double 2x4.

    I shot this video yesterday in Miami.  There are two major routes jammed with multi-million-dollar yachts, and they cross just north of Brickell Key.  Gotta keep your head on a swivel!  I saw a couple of passes that would have made me uncomfortable.

    The channels are pretty narrow.  I saw two 70-footers heading for a certain collision, and I started getting really worried.  Lo and behold, the stand-on vessel stayed his course, and the give-way vessel gave way.  But I'll bet there have been some collisions.

    Drove by our city docks at lunch to see loading pleasure yachts onto the deck of a European freighter. Pretty neat. Not sure how they winterize them once they pull them out.

    Guessing they may have been sold over in Europe or just owners that had their boats sent to the Great Lakes for the summer.

    Pershing has surface drives.

    Do they haul em like that, because they don't know how to back up a trailer? Looks like they have huge ratchet straps on the cleats.

    And we complain about spending $250 to haul and block.  

    BTW the other boat is a 2008 Hatteras 80.  At thirteen years old, she can be yours for a cool $3M.

    I guess that is that same Hatteras - that's for sale. 
    I've seen big cruiser boats arrive here in the springtime on the back of ocean going freighters.
    But never seen any of them leave in the fall.

    Can't imagine the shipping costs. Workmen climbing all over the boats like ants battening them down.

    One of our club members has a Harley 42' with twin engine  surface drive. I saw it once on the river but haven't had a chance to see it up close.

    @rasbury - surface drive means surface-piercing props.  When it's on plane, the hub and the top half of the prop are completely out of the water.  Any time you see a boat hauling a$s and throwing a huge rooster-tail of water behind it, that's probably a surface drive.

    Better fuel efficiency, more speed, greater steering accuracy. No underwater appendages to slow you down.
    Not so good for docking. And, you need a huge swim platform.

    hey FWIW: I read that a bunch of Mercury drives were considered surface drives. Bravo One XR Sport Master, NXT, etc.
    Guess Merc built a twin prop surface drive called the Blackhawk in the 90's. Never seen one personally. Heard of them tho.

    I saw one forum comment saying the boat had to reach 45 mph before getting on plane.  (Obviously a go-fast, not an express cruiser hull.)

    Most of the go-fast boats around here that have 600+ horsepower are running Mercury XR drives.  I've never heard them referred to as a surface drive, but I really could care less about that style of boating haha.

    They dont like to back up very well from what I hear but to go 70+ I guess there are concessions

    we see a lot of extended prop shaft type boats around here for duck hunting/shallows...I guess that is the same thing....
