Planning to add a pair of underwater lights over winter. Had Seablaze on the old boat but would like to keep the cost down. Water here is very clear.

    Anyone running something like this?

You need to know the lumens.

They claim 3000 but I believe that is BS.

For the wiper removal, I removed the old motor and replaced it with a rubber bumper. Then I aligned the walk-through window bumper with it. Works perfectly.

Love that idea. I'll get the old motor out first & figure out what to plug the hole with. Might even fiberglass/gelcoat the hole. Getting good at it.
No need for a rubber bumper on the helm side on our boat.

Starboard side I am going to buy a new arm and wiper and leave the motor installed. I changed the rocker switch so it only cycles the starboard motor now.

Boat is hard to get into neutral from forward or reverse. This winter I will try what @Dream_Inn suggested and replace the detents.

Got the transducer and a small 12v battery mounted in the dinghy, works well and the outboard charges the battery when above idle speeds.

Last ride of the season, mixing up the fuel stabilizer.

Also tried out the fill-in cushion for the first time ever. Kinda fun!

My boat came with 4 Lumitec Seablaze 3 which were around 1700 lumens each. Two of the four went bad by the end of last summer so I decided to replace but was not looking to spend $400 ea for simmilar.

Decided to go with the Lumitec Seablaze Mini. Watched Amazon warehouse deals last winter and over time got two sets (come 2 per pack) for $180 per pack ($90 per light).

Around 800 lumens each so my expectations were that they would be just ok but we are very happy with them.

@aero3113 have you replaced your thermostat housing inserts? Mine look a bit rough.

@YYZRC could you take a picture of the bottom side of your filler cushion for me?  We would like one but it will have to be custom built.

Sure, it is plywood with 4 stainless pegs that stick out and sit on the lip under the seat cushions.

Yes, I did. I bought a Quicksilver kit for both engines that had the thermostat, gaskets and housing included.

Cover is on. Hopefully it holds the snow load.

I will be selling the cover in the spring and going back to shrink wrap.

A long time coming but I finally got around to modifying the dash harness. Since I don’t need any of the gauge connectors anymore I removed them from the harness. Now it’s just a pigtail!

Wires to dash are just depth and compass illumination.

Replaced the shift detent balls. They were fine, but I found that the port drive had what I think is a small amount of water in the oil. Starboard oil was clean/no discolouration.

You can see the gray streaks in the oil.

@YYZRC , did you see that out of the drain also or just when you pulled the cover? It’s tough to tell from the pic but could be water. I had a tiny bit of moisture when I drained my starboard side.

Just when I pulled the cover. I didn’t drain the drive completely. Guess I will do it in the spring just to be safe.

I've been told it is not good to leave the drive empty, you might want to drain out the rest and refill with new oil. If it shows contamination when draining maybe a vacuum/pressure test to determine the leak.
  • YYZRCYYZRC Posts: 5,437 ✭✭✭✭✭
It’s not empty, just the top drained out when I removed the cover. I refilled the drive reservoirs so it should be ok until spring.

I would still check at the lower drain plug for contamination, better to deal with it now than in the spring.
