Unrelated but @Grahamu do you have a local source for discounted Merc parts?

@YYZRC blown away by your list.  But what’s a “hull liner”?

@Spyderweb the fabric on the hullsides. Previously the brown cross-hatch fabric that made the interior quite dark.

@YYZRC, unfortunately since closing the business down I don't. A couple of the dealers I knew have changed ownership and moved away. I managed to stock up on some common maintenance parts but have since used up the filters and oil last week. Will be in Florida for 3 months this coming winter so plan to check out prices and compare.

That was the easiest way for me to get it on the stand myself. This one just needs some paint touch up and a new set of decals. I will probably just stuff it in the corner until spring.

Split the drive. Found a couple of small zebra mussels in the water intake, heads up on that @aero3113 and @kordo

Engines moved forward. Lots of room to remove the transom assemblies.

Took exactly 7 hours start to finish.

Found these grease fittings that I didn’t know about.

    Nice work @YYZRC !!
I’m not sure if all couplers have those fittings. I can’t remember if mine do. I do remember when I had the drives off I lubed up the couplers and shafts generously.

A generously lubed shaft is key.

Well this is certainly a problem. Cracked gimbal ring.

@YYZRC , besides the crack, look at how the bolt hole elongated. The torque was definitely off for a few years.

Great observation @aero3113 - I wonder how long it’s been cracked. Might be from hitting the rock.

I always greased those coupler zerks in the fall. If memory serves my coupler that was original 06 had two zerks, but the newer one I had replaced in 17 only had one zerk. Definitely an annual maintenance item.

Yes, I’ve seen all newer ones only have one zerk. Greasing it should be a yearly maintenance item.

I had a similar fail on my 342 back in the day.  I grounded the boat in sand at 30 mph, and thought I escaped without damage.  A few weeks later, a gimbal ring broke in half, and the outdrive almost fell off into the deep.

One trim pump is weak. Figured while going to all this work with the transom assemblies, I may as well replace the trim pumps. DB makes these, got them for about $300 on Amazon. Love the stainless steel bracket.
