People with every day illnesses are afraid to go to the hospitals. Not all these deaths are the virus. If people have chronic illness they still need to see their doctor

When hospitals are running out of body bags and having to store bodies in refrigerated trucks because they are out of places to put bodies should be enough to let everyone know this is not the flu and it is multiplying a lot faster. I was kind of relaxed too when this first started, but now I get it. My wife is an RN and her and tons of other nurses are coming home crying everyday because of the things they are seeing. My wife has been a nurse for 20 years and a lot of other nurses have been doing this for a lot longer and have never seen anything like this. Once this is over there will be plenty of nurses and people that will need therapy and even develop PTSD for years to come. Just the flu huh?
I feel like I just typed this (except I may have said 25 years)!?  I bet both you and I could share a drink and talk lots of stories from our RN wives! :)  Everything is true and then some.  I hear it straight from the source, but I know better, like Shawn, than to put details all on a forum.  It is so far from a regular flu.

Hospitals are a buisness, not necessarily for the doctors and nurses but for the bean counters, investors, etc.  In private owned prisons and jails Its a common practice to hold inmates who have time served or bailed out for hours so they can be counted as being "housed" for that day in order to bill the state for another full day .

If the government is going to pay you dividends for each covid patient or you have a quota to hit to get a nice check, it's going to produce some questionable decision making.   Why make pennies for that cancer patients death from their Medicare when you can make big bucks off a corona diagnosis that wont be double checked.

Doctors get compensated by pharmaceutical companies for pushing certain medications.  These medications may cost you way more out of pocket and in many cases are not covered by your insurance providers.  You have to jump through hoops to get a covered substitute medication.  This is a common practice. Why would giving false corona numbers be thay unbelievable?

Has nothing to do with black helicopters or conspiracy theories.   Medical care is a buisness.   Don't take all your media intel as the gospel truth.

I think it's about time to close this discussion and get back to the one thing we all agree on: Keeping Rinkers going for the next generation to enjoy.

Hey guys this thread gives our brothers and sisters a chance to vent their concerns and experiences with us. If you dont want to par take in it, don't. I think that it has over 31 pages tells me "we" want to talk about it and give updates. For example Mass just extended its "stay at home" till May 18th. Now IMO I feel that keeping people out of work and not being able to pay their bills or feed their familys is not the answer. Take precaution, go to work and stay as safe as you possibly can.

    Tension???tension??? What???
  • Dream_InnDream_Inn Member, Moderator Posts: 7,662 mod
I agree Raybo, this is place to talk about this.  Yes, there is some tension.  Yes, it is a boating forum.  I also think this forum and even this topic, is way different and better than most forums.  There is no name calling going on here, even with some tension.  We all want out of this mess, and yes have our own opinions and views of what we are seeing from all of this.  It can be very interesting to hear thoughts from those in areas that aren't really seeing much of this.  Hopefully, those people can get an idea from those of us that are stuck in the middle of it all as well.  I'm definitely all mixed on all of this!  There are times when I think that Sweden is doing it right and just getting it all done!  Then there are times, many, that I just want to go home and drink!  Change that, go to the boat and just drink!  I'm sure I'll have a different outlook after a drink on the boat this weekend! :)

The problem is we shouldn’t have shut down the country and ruined millions of lives, rather than thousands. If you’re high risk, stay home and let the other people keep working and keep the country moving.

The best part of America is personal freedom.

If i wanted i could chain smoke. Eat McDonalds until i puke everyday then die at the ripe age of 40.

Those who want to risk it should be able to.  If you want to go to the bar or beach its your right.  If you want to work that's your right.

If you feel you or your family is unsafe doing so you should file for unemployment, avoid all others and do all your essential shopping in your mask, gloves and hazmat gear.

It's your personal choice to quarantine.  It shouldnt be forced on those of us who are not afraid of the boogie man or are from areas where its not an issue.

I also dont understand the following people: non boat owners, people who sell their diesel boat for a dumb rv but stay on a boat website😉, flyers fans, pats fans, NBA fans, Eagles fans, pats fans, dodge owners, people who post what they eat on social media, people who watch American idol, people who watch survivor and people who buttom shirts  top to bottom, people who like bed bath and beyond.

I feel this is one big government over reach and many businesses who can profit over this are doing just that (see big corps who filed for the ppe loans)

I can't wait for crap to go back to normal.

Heck it’s risky just going boating!!!

@PickleRick - To take the analogy to boats:

If I choose to say to heck with no wake zones because I know I'm a safe boater and don't need to listen to what someone else determines to be safe on my behalf and shoot through the zone at 40mph colliding with another boat resulting in killing all of the occupants on that boat as well as everyone on my boat - it's OK because it was my personal freedom (choice) to do so?

So .0176%. A fraction of a tenth of a percent, meanwhile unemployment is approaching 30,000,000. I’m not in favor of increasing our death rate either, but even if it quadrupled, it’s still a fraction of 1%. I’m not a fan of 30,000,0000 people losing what they’ve worked for, in favor of a very small fraction of .1%, who have the option of staying at home and protecting themselves. I just can’t get onboard with it. Yes, death is tough, but it’s also part of the circle of life. .0176%..........

    Let's also ditch speed limits.

Someone's choice to work/play doesn't affect you or your family if you exercise your right to quarantine.

A little long reach to compare to no wake zones.

Roughly 2300 total Swiss deaths, and their economy is intact.

You can’t look at raw numbers alone, you need to compare the per capita ratio which, despite no mass closures nor stay at home orders, without the huge job and economic impacts and through sensible distancing practices by the Swedes you see results of a similar number to the US. $3T later and economic carnage for a long time to come, I agree with the approaches taken in the highly populated areas but for most f the country perhaps not necessary.

In part I think it’s a cultural difference, some European and in particular Scandinavian countries see and do things differently than here due to a different cultural approach.

I guess I'm done with this thread, again.  Exercising my opt-out now.

A lot of us want to talk about c19, and maybe some of us need to.  But we are at our best when we talk about boats and boating.

Went to a local hardware store the other day. It's about 1/3 the size of a HD or Lowes but they were only letting 10 in at a time. Had to wait outside until somebody came out. Husband and wife in front of us couldn't go in together until another person came out. Luckily 2 people came out when me and my wife were next in line. But once we got in they announced no browsing because people were outside waiting. Get what you need and get out. We waited outside about 20 minutes. About 10-15 in front of us when we got there
    Did you wear masks???

yep. Mandatory here in PA now

If this was normal times I wouldn't be able to get out nearly as much... (this pandemic has a LOT of boat owners shacked up in their homes up North, so there's a whole bunch who need their boats run regularly) but for now the hours are "Get this done when you can" which means a few hours of working between 10am and 2pm and then go have fun.....every.....day.

Works for me, for now... but at some point if things don't go back to normal the $ will stop rolling in. That's when I pack everything into the 270 and go see if I can live life on the hook. We'll see!

  • PickleRickPickleRick Member Posts: 4,014 ✭✭✭✭✭
You wont be short of neighbors if you decide to live on the hook.  Have you been through the marathon bay mooring field? I'd estimate 20 to 30% of those boats can no longer move under their own power.  The lasf time i went through there was before Irma and id guess it's only worse now. Low income housing is not nearly as plentiful as it was before Irma and trucking in from the mainland isnt a great option.

Haven't made it down that way just yet, it's on the list of things to do though!!
