Well the reason started this thread was because I knew Omi was going to get a whole ton of people, all of you included. Thankfully it ISN'T what Delta was, or even the very first Corona was... if it was, we'd be in a different world right now.

I'm sorry a few people couldn't just be open minded enough to listen to others and realize all I was saying was I hope we all weather this storm and stay safe and healhty. Oh well.

As I mentioned in a previous post, everything today is highly politicized.  This started a long time ago and is not unique to the US.  It is everywhere.  It seems that you can't have a friendly debate about anything without it turning into a **** storm.  We are witnessing the breakdown of society through division.  Maybe that's the plan.... Divide and conquer!

    A little before George's time....
"Divide and rule -- "Divida et Impera" -- said Julius Caesar, and since he divided Rome and "all Gaul" itself, no one ever contradicted him. However, earlier civilizations used the "divide and conquer" strategy long before Caesar; he may have been beaten to the punch, so to speak, by warring societies that were far more brutal, and far less all-encompassing, than the mighty Julius."

Nobody has anybody's back anymore.  Not to mention considering people brother and sister.  The pandemic simply brought that to the forefront.  It's absolutely clear that a large part of the population could care less about their fellow neighbor.  Maybe get them sick...meh so what.
I do not think that is the case ... and that thought you wrote is gonna eat your thoughts up like cancer.

I can reassure you ... if your neighbor had a young child in need .... lots of people on the block would climb in and help.

This virus has divided people on principle ... it is the principle of having freedom, freedom to choose. I am vaccinated ... but I believe getting the vaccine should be a choice. Tyrant imposing laws is for dictatorships ... it is the easy way to enforce something. Democracy is harder ... you need to educate people, and gain their trust ... something the government is TERRIBLE at doing ... and so, yeah, you're gonna have people that don't trust anything the government says, because they perpetually lie ... what do you expect when someone/some group always lies???

But back to my point ... are you gonna walk away from a 20 year relationship because you are arguing whether a vaccine should be a choice or enforced by law??  ****, I've had much worse fights than that with my own wife ... and I'm still married to her. I'd say if that is worth walking away from a 20 year old long friendship ... than that is pretty lame.

So, let's not be lame, and rise above this ... just because someone has a different opinion ... doesn't make them your enemy.

nothing to do with cover but interesting perspective
This is a perfect perspective ... we fortunately have it too good.
And now we acting like spoiled brats ... getting into hissy fits over Trump and Biden, and some virus/vaccine discussion.

I wonder, how many of us would act this way, if we having the SAME conversation directly across from each other at a camp fire, holding a scotch and a cigar. I'd say hardly any ... probably NONE.

@GMSLITHO it's funny that you posted that perspective.  It's almost exactly what I was thinking about this morning.

@MarkB that has been my point of view all along.  IMO one of the big downfalls is social media has made everyone feel bulletproof. In a weird way less technologically advanced areas are more socially aware.  You tend to be a little more prudent about what you say when there is a real chance of getting punched.  I know i have different political opinions than some.  My goal is to try and find things i can talk about.  Search for the common ground first.  Stay away from the hot topics.  The issues that i have is when you are trying to be neutral and someone just keeps trying to get thier digs in. My brother in law is that way.  Just sending an innocent text with a picture can cause a rant.  It makes it very easy to just cut someone one off.  They get labled as that "angry old man".

I just don't recall seeing anything particularly offensive...or at the least untrue as far as political statements on this thread but maybe I missed something...

No one really dies from Covid which was why I was careful to say complications from Covid. It is a virus. No one dies from a virus...just like Aids...you die of complications. Anyone can certainly go into an ICU and argue why they are there, if they can hear you over their ventilators anyway...
To me this is all semantics ... you get COVID and die from it, or from complications from it ... end result is still the same ... you're dead.
I would guess the reason it is described this way is that people don't die from the same complications. If you get bit by a rattle snake and don't get the antivenom then your demise is pretty predictable on how the posion will shut down the body- with covid, it may be lungs, it may be heart or other issues- not the same all the time so complications from covid is used. Seems when ever I read something published by actual medical people, that is the term they use.

So I went back through the whole thread...I don't get why anyone would have been so upset as to leave the forum- maybe stay away from the topic. But, that is the freedom we have!

I know this topic is about a virus and the true and lies around the issue, but unfortunately it become political the days someone took the opportunity to push an agenda over US. we all have different background, and opinions which I respect very much from everyone, But In my personal opinion, after spending 20 years of my life under a communist dictatorship of the Castro regime, I can smell communist from thousand miles away or when it being using a better word socialist which it is in my personal opinion the same. Plus after 20 years of serving in the USN, I still don't trust anything coming from any government, like Iraq (weapons of mass destruction) or Mexico (operation fast and furious), now CDC. I learn long time ago that nothing is free and worse when it is mandate.

So does anyone know the real reason why Al left? I would be shocked if it was because of this thread, seems kinda childish. Didn’t he do something like this last year (except having all his posts deleted)? Doesn’t he always leave the forum during the winter?
