It will be the forum's designated place for people to post political propaganda, extremist memes, BS conspiracy theories, petty insults, and anything related to presidential politics.
Then the mods can just delete every comment, so it will basically be a "write-only memory" for stupidity. The rest of us will be free to talk about boating.
I take some of the false and inaccurate comments here seriously. Differences of opinion are fine, but posting things that are flat out wrong doesn't help anyone.
The only person to blame for Al leaving is Al. I would prefer to have him here, he has always been generous with his time and knowledge. He was a major asset to the forum, and I think he really enjoyed helping folks out. But he posted something strong and couldn't take the strong response. It's a two way street....

The internet is full of "flat out wrongs". And porn. Anyone here for facts unrelated to boating is getting exactly what they should have bargained for. Me, I'm here for the <boat> porn.

Just because the net is full of falsities, doesn't make it ok to post it there or here. Kinda the "if your friends jump off a bridge" deal there....
I agree @Liberty44140 While I have not met a single soul on this site, I consider most on here a friend, unless your in to diesel motors....so we talk about this and we talk about that- if I said something about my boat that was wrong I'm sure someone should say something. Same principle when it comes to anything else posted. I like the idea of getting varying opinions that we can civilly discuss on any topic. This is a topic that affects all of us.
In relation to the poll on this discussion, it's about 50/50, maybe Open ahead by one if I count correctly. I voted open only because I think this is an important topic and I don't think anyone benefits from us just burying our heads in the sand. Maybe not boat related, however boating does create a common thread amongst us and I think most of us agree that we value each other's opinion and are adults that are able to discuss whatever topic comes along sensibly and with respect for each other's opinion. I may not agree with you, but that doesn't mean I don't respect you and I'd be more than happy to sit and have a drink and talk about anything with any one of you. Open or closed I guess is a moot point at this juncture, but it's been interesting.

Trust me, you don't want that ... as I posted before. It was done in another site for fishing and hunting, and now 50% or more of the posts are all political or covid related, and everyone is fighting. It's a hate show ... you just get pi$$ed every time you're on it, so I left.
I missed the deadline, but I would’ve said keep it open only because it will give me something to read this winter since the rest of the forum is so slow
Ok, so we need to find someone really rich that can fly us all to some central place for at least one evening of sitting down for some drinks when this is over.
The mods showed good leadership in leaving the thread open.
Now how about some leadership from Handy and the rest of us: How about dialing back on the pyrotechnics and rhetoric? Is it possible to have a discussion based on facts and reason, without all of the political dogma? Or will we make the mods regret their decision?
Looks like a sweet ride to me- my impression of the keys is much like most of FL- shallow draft unless your in a channel with some exceptions when you travel the same area. You learn you can rip across at a high tide and can't idle a cross that area in a low. My area has a lot of sand- oyster bar the worst. I'd love to do the keys yet would be terrified the whole time!
Does my vote to close put it over the top? Wish I could just delete the thread at this point. Thought I was just saying something nice..have realized it was not needed here.
No bud- look how many vented and got some of it off their chests? Either way you believe. Maybe not a conversation the forum was started for....or was it? It's been hard/on everyone in some fashion.

Making jokes is how we navigate thru crisis
Yes, if we lose the ability to joke and laugh, we have nothing left.
